Inside a Cinco de Mayo Party at Martha Stewart's Bedford Estate

There was no shortage of Martha-ritas, guac, and extravagant glassware.

Cinco de Mayo was slightly different for me this year. I found myself in a private car on the way to Martha Stewart’s main residence—a farm she calls Cantitoe Corners in Katonah, New York, which is about an hour and a half outside of New York City—for a poolside party. There, we sipped her famous Martha-ritas (both classic and pomegranate-flavored) out of goblets from her new Baccarat glassware collection.

It’s safe to say any drink would taste better out of those glam goblets, but they were specifically designed for her Martha-ritas to be, as Martha put it, “modern and with the times.” She said a pair of the crystalware in a box makes for a really pretty engagement, wedding, or anniversary present. “I used to give down pillows as a wedding present,” Martha explained. “Now I have the Martha-rita glass—longer lasting than the down pillow.”

The collection also includes a pair of tumblers, a pitcher, and an ice bucket—all of which feature an elegant cut crystal motif of horizontal and vertical lines. Not only that, but Martha’s name is on each piece—an honor that less than five people have. “It’s the first time in 260 years that we have named a pattern after a person who is living,” reveals Jim Shreve, president and CEO of Baccarat North America. “This will live on for another 260 years.”

The whole collaboration originated after Martha purchased Skylands, Edsel Ford’s former summer home in Seal Harbor, Maine. With that estate, she inherited a significant amount of Baccarat pieces, including the French retailer’s Nancy collection. The only problem? It was missing an additional vessel for her favorite drink, the Martha-rita, so she requested an updated version of the collection with that necessary piece.

Everything in the collection—with prices ranging from $350 for a pair of tumbler to $1,100 for the pitcher—is available to shop online at Neiman Marcus, Martha’s website, Baccarat’s website, and all Baccarat boutiques.

Other highlights of Martha’s party include her guacamole recipe, which she prepared for guests herself (her secret ingredient? Hard-boiled eggs); piñatas filled with her brand of CBD gummies; meeting her dogs; and a quick greenhouse tour with a peek into her flower cutting garden. All future Cinco de Mayos will have a hard time living up to this one!
